Prints for sale

Hi all, it has been a while since posting last. I am onto a new project documenting snapshots of the world around me. Well Sydney anyway. Uncensored Scenes is what I am calling it. Every month I am going to update a the shop on this website and sell these great prints. Affordable art to decorate your house, flat or doghouse if that's where you are spending your time lately. Give them as a gift bunch some together that will sit on a wall nicely with each other. Anyway here is a sneak peak from the January Singles.

Martin

You come across stories like this from time to time, never good. I am fortunate enough to be able to take a picture of Martin. He has had 30 chickens decapitated in the last month and he believes it's people doing it. not foxes, because of the way they have been killed. Mac Fields police are taking it seriously.

Not usually one of those feel good stories we come across but important just the same. I photographed Martin with his only remaining hen, she was laying eggs and was very skittish after what has happened.

Even though it was a chicken it made me feel for it and Martin too. He obviously cared for his animals, pigeons also.

He remains positive in the fact that he will get more chickens and not let this affect his life, lets just hope it does not happen again.

Cheers, Si

Flamenco Workshops

Hi all,

Time for an update on life and what I have shot. Meet Pepa Molina, she is a expert at Flamenco dance, you know how I know this. I made her go dance in the Aussie bush on uneven ground in her special Flamenco shoes and she nailed it. Both the photo and the dancing. Anyway she is going to be running a series of Flamenco dance work shops in Fairfield which will culminate in a massive Flash Mob somewhere in Fairfield next year.

I really love these sorts of jobs, something I knew really nothing about, I came away cultural richer for the experience in meeting Pepa and shooting her dance, learning about her culture. Really unbelievable. Anyway for more info check out the story these pics were shot for the the link attached.

Time for an Ivy portrait.

Hi all. Day off today, I spent it with my little Ivy. She was pretty tired tonight. She fought it for about 4 mins and 36 seconds but then the crash came. I just loved the look on her face here, honestly I live this pic of her. I would be happy to see it on her 21st invite. No wait 18th.

cheers, Si.

Cameron Scott

Hi all,

its been a week, Sorry. Been sick as a dog. Anyways. Worked through it all. When got home hit the bed. That has been my last few days.

So onwards to meet Cameron, a multiple Australian age-group champion in track cycling, has been selected in the national team and will represent Australia in Kazakhstan.

What a super bike ride that would be. I reckon out of all sports that one can play, cycling is far the best. It is like when you partake in this sport you don't grow up.

That was me years ago when I use to downhill MTB. Riding having fun, joking around, racing, hanging with mates. Such a social sport.

Everytime I shoot a cyclist I leave saying I wanna get back into it, I am not sure my wife will let me. My old man warned her on our wedding day not to let me.

Crazy Annie

Hi all,  today I shot another musical person. This time it was Gabrielle, from Liverpool area. She is starring as Annie in Mary Poppins the musical. The show is being run out of the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta.

It is funny how photos and people you photograph along the way come back again and you do a portrait session with them. I last shot Gabrielle four years ago in May 2011 and I was driving there thinking I been here before, this is the photo I did and remembered it.

I love the feeling of having a job where I do remember things I do and I am proud of what I have achieved. Not only was I proud, but so were Gabrielle's parents, that they kept the clipping of said shoot four years ago and laminated it for proper keeping also. pretty rad that is.

Cheers, Si

Local Rugby derby

I love rugby union. I find it such a better game than league. The team has to work together to ruck the ball, gain valuable meters, defend, and attack.

I love shooting this game they play in heaven, I used to play it for a while. I ended up mountain biking after playing. So yes, I have a affinity for this game.

Yesterday I shot some rugby action in the local derby clash between the Campbelltown Harlequins and the Camden Rams.

It is always going to be a fierce match up between these two towns in any game they play. I think you can see the effort the boys are putting in when they run into the line of defence.

NAIDOC Week

Hi all, by now NAIDOC Week should have wrapped up. Some amazing scenes and moments in time have been witnessed by myself and many other cultures that live in and around Sydney.

My experience with NAIDOC Week was rewarding. I always enjoy taking in the indigenous culture. Shooting these events and assignments truly are an honnor.

I have to say I am fond of the traditional smoking ceremony. This is where my picture was taken for this post.

A special moment in time, as there was a flock of birds circling above auntie Norma announced to the crowd that gathered that they believed that their ancestors came back as pets of nature and these birds circling were somehow letting everyone know that they were happy.

My picture of Uncle Stephen has to be one of my favourite pictures taken of him or any assignment regarding NAIDOC week. Oh yeah those smoking ceremony, really rad. Very spiritual breathing in the eucalyptus leaves.

Cheers, Si

Keating Musical

Hi All,

Today I got to photograph Rebecca Morris, she is a local resident in Southwest Sydney and she is starring in the upcoming Keating Musical.

The musical is being held at the Bankstown Library. It starts next week and is only on for 6 days. So it is being held in the area that his electorate was. I must admit I would really love to see this show, it was an interesting time in our political history.

I wonder if his famous line is going to be in the musical "this is the recession we had to have".

Cheers, Si

Roller derby action

Hi all, following up from my last post about the derby dolls. I got to cover some of the roller derby action yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately the dolls had a late bout so I ended up shooting the Sydney Snipers against the Wollongong Steel City. It was in the Five By Five event at Whitlam Leisure Centre.

It was the first time I had the privledge of shoot derby action before, even though I have covered it with set up shots before. It is some rad fun. I stood at turn one with a bunch of other shooters talking about the sport and photographic.

Talk about keen, these guys can travel all around shooting this sport. On to gear, I thought we were pretty kitted out. There was one dude that had flash kit with multiple triggers, four cameras, welded metal camera case. Man. I was jealous.

Back to the derby, the action was rough, fast, and dangerous. One lady came off injured, it was good seeing that everyone takes a knee when that happens.

Many way if any of you et a chance to check it out please do so. Super fun night it would be.

Miss Oceania International

Hi all, I had the privilege of shooting Brittany Dickson the other day. Now who is Brittany, she took the win in the Miss Oceania International beauty pageant last month. Pretty special for her, that I am sure of.

Brittany is another one of those people we are lucky enough to meet along our way, she is studying animal and veterinary bioscience and plans to visit and work in an orphanage in Myanmar later this year. Once again pretty special.

Cheers, Si

Refugee

Hi all, I really do live my job, I am lucky enough to meet some spectacular people. The sorts of people that when you hear them speak and they tell stories you just listen in amazement.

Enter Andrew Ang, a refugee from Cambodia. Came here in 1982 and now speaks to other refugees encouraging them to dream, plan goals, and live their lives to the fullest.

I really could have listened to this mans stories for hours. You have to admire the persistence of people like Andrew. Against the odds. In danger. Life in the line from vicious people. Then come out on the other side, safe successful and willing to share his experiences.

My hat goes off to you Andrew.

Cheers, Si

Nathan McKay

Yesterday afternoon I was lucky enough to score a late job with a local boxer to the southwest Sydney area.

Nathan will be competing in a fight night next week at Cabramatta Leagues club. All I really know is Nathan is fighting the dude that fought Gallen a while back and Gallen beat him.

Boxing is one of those sports that I am amazed at. It must take some commitment on behalf of the competitor. Knowing that you are going to get punched in the face

I shot this job with the intentions of blacking the surroundings. It certainly does create some great and moody portraiture.

So good luck to you Nathan hope you don't get hit much.

Cheers, Si.

Winter Wonderland

Hi all,

I mentioned a couple of weeks back about a arts festival that was coming up on the 6th of June. Well it came and went over the weekend. I worked back on my shift for Fairfax Media to cover the event, man was it a rad job. I came away thinking how Southwest Sydney really needs events like this.

It had something for everyone, zombie rock music, fortune telling and I am guessing here it had a twist, hoola hoopers, cabaret singing/comedy, performance art with a clown and how he loves meat (quite funny), and finally installation art. Wait can not forget the carnival food we all know and love.

Once again I would love to thank the organizers of the #lastadventure2015 for putting on such a rad show and we hope to see in again in the future.  I normally only post one picture but the pics of the event were pretty cool I will post a few.

Final picture is a portrait of one of the curators when I discovered the make shift studio in the front of house at the event. Once again guys thanks for putting on the event, I had a ball shooting this for the paper and I am positive that all the other people that came for the #lastadventure2015 enjoyed it immensely. Oh yeah, check them out on instagram @lastadventure2015 Till next time.

Cheers, Si

Chilean artist Cecilia Castro

I was lucky enough to book this job today, it was an honor to be able to shoot Cecilia for the Fairfield City Champion. Cecilia is a chilean artist and her latest work 'Mapuche' is a reflection upon the indigenous people from Chile and how they a mistreated by the Chilean government. The works were very striking, there is only one cast of a face that is an actual mapuche but Cecilia would not tell me, the one i guessed, well I was wrong. It goes to tell, do not judge a book by it's cover. Oh yeah check out her exhibit at the Fairfield Museum.

Chilean artist Cecilia Castro will have her art exhibited at the gallery and host a ceramics workshop.

Marriage equality

Hi all,

I am going to weigh in on the marriage equality debate that we a facing in Australia once again, I will not go too far into having a rant, even though I probably really want to.

So to begin, we as a nation have let this issue go on for far too long it should happen, it really is not at all to complex.

I had the pleasure of meeting a couple the other week with three kids, you know what I witnessed. Love. The most simplest way of saying it. The family of Mel  and Liz , pictured with their twins Zali and Kale, and son Bodhi. The picture taken, was about the local MP and how he does not stand for marriage equality.

Mel and Liz, pictured with their twins Zali and Kale, 19 months, and son Bodhi, 5, are calling for Macarthur MP Russell Matheson to reverse his opposition to gay marriage.

Mel and Liz, pictured with their twins Zali and Kale, 19 months, and son Bodhi, 5, are calling for Macarthur MP Russell Matheson to reverse his opposition to gay marriage.

It is exactly the same love that I see and feel in my house with my wife Amanda and our daughter Ivy, plus the step kids Pandora, Emily, and Pheonix.

I once heard a great line in the 'Long Way Down'  from Ewen McGregor when he talking about how across different cultures how we all want the same thing, to raise a family, live in peace, and provide for our families. The same goes here.

In closing, lets be rad to each other folks and make this happen.

Cheers, Si

Winter Wonderland Arts Festival

Hi all,

There is something eerie about a somewhat abandoned place, not saying that it is bad, it is rad actually especially for a photographer or an artist. That is the location for the upcoming arts festival named Winter Wonderland that is making a home for itself at the old Adventure Land site at Edmonson Park.

I enjoyed walking around scouting a location for this shoot. There was so much to choose from, in the end this shot came from the old Wartog ride down the back.

As for the actual Winter Wonderland festival i can't wait for this to shoot, I am pretty stoked about it, I am going to have to work overtime on this one but I reckon will be well worth it.

Cheers, Si

Hi all, like the title suggests the Premier of NSW Mike Baird came to Liverpool a few hours ago. Along with himself came the usual entourage of other print media, radio, and of course television. I love these jobs. It seems like such a rush, running around, trying to get that spectacular shot that no one else can capture.

One of the great challenges that face photographers. Anyway back to the job, it was a good one with the announcement that the University of Western Sydney will be setting up shop in Liverpool in 2016 with a higher education system based at the hospital. It can only be good for the people of Liverpool.

Cheers, Si
